Deb’s practice is concentrated primarily in the areas of elder law, real estate, estate planning and administration.  In her 17 years of practice, she has lectured on topics of elder law and estate planning for the NYS Bar Association, Schenectady County Bar Association, businesses and many community groups.  She has chaired and lectured at the New York State Bar Association's Basics of Elder Law program several times as well as once for the Advanced Document Drafting for the Elder Law Practitioner. In addition, she updated the course materials for the Practical Skills Course for Estate Planning in 1999, 2001, 2003 and 2005 relative to Surrogate Health Care Decision Making.

The choice of elder law, real estate, estate planning and administration as her primary areas of practice comes from her desire to help others in her community.  She receives satisfaction from solving the very real problems of families and individuals who may be facing nursing home placement, applying for Medicaid, or dealing with the death or disability of a loved one.  Deb also enjoys interacting with people and these practice areas are rich with the opportunity to meet with a variety of people on a daily basis.   It is important to her to educate her clients on the law and their options before they make a decision, and she strives to do so through her close client contact and follow through.

In addition to her private practice, Deb was the Town Attorney for the Town of Amsterdam from October of 1996 through November of 2009.  She resigned her position as Town Attorney upon making a successful bid for the position Town Justice of the Town of Amsterdam, a position she currently holds.  Deb is also the Attorney for the Town of Florida, and has been since 2008.

An active community volunteer, she served on the Board of Directors of the Amsterdam YMCA from 1997 until 2009 and was a past President.  She was also formerly a Trustee of the Foundation of St. Mary’s Hospital, and is active in her church and at her children’s schools.

Deb is a member of the New York State Bar Association (Trust and Estate and Elder Law Sections) and is a former member of the Executive Committee of the Elder Law Section. She is a member of the Schenectady County and Montgomery County Bar Associations and the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York.  A life-long resident of the Capital District, Deb is a graduate of Skidmore College and Albany Law School.  She resides in Hagaman, New York with her husband and their three children.
